Defence types in Evony

Basic rules of battle mechanics in Evony.
1)All troops move according to their speed.
2)They attack the first troop which is within their range.
3)If two or more different troop types are within striking distance to each other, then they attack the unit with highest speed (In compact defense) , And ranged units attack closest troops unless there is a range unit within range. They will ignore any and all troops and focus on ranged units.
4)If more then 1 range unit is with range they attack the troop with the highest total attack value.


In a 5k defense. Troops are attacked in the following order:
Cavs
Phracts
Pike
Swords
Wars
Workers
Archers

(Even though archers are faster than warriors and workers, archers stop once a troop is within range so wars and workers will pass them)
Archers attacking will follow the same order as in foot troops since the advance out of range of defending archers. However wars and workers will be within defending archers range so attacking archers will over look them and attack archers between warriors and workers.
Archers attacking in following order
Cavs
Phracts
Pike
Swords
Archers
Wars
Workers
Scouts don't get involved in battle until all defending troops get killed. After defending troops get killed scouts attack city ATs.
Defense types
5k Defense
This is the most used type of defense in evony. Typically you are supposed to have each type of wall fortification on your wall.
Preferred Wall Defense (well for me)

2k traps
2k abatis

Preferred Troops (low layering)
larger amount of archers

(these are the important troops)
Strengths:
Effective against cav, phract and ram waves when layered properly.
Lower Food Upkeep
Weaknesses:
Sustainable to Archer and mech RBs
Not so stable when offline
Compact Defense
The key to a Compact Defense(CD) is 0 traps abatis, and defense trebs. as this forces the enemy to fight your entire army at once instead of 1 at a time.

Preferred Wall Setup

Heavy Layering
Archers aren't needed as much as in a 5k defense but always good.

Strengths:
Very affective against Archer RBs and mech hits
Forces enemy to use more troops
Sturdy even when player is offline
Weakness:
Troop Upkeep can get more expensive do to heavy layering
Open to cav and phract smacks
Sustains massive damage from a ram attack
Reinforcement
You can get Plundered if you try to transport or reinforce someone much larger then you in prestige.

Formula

0-2.99x prest = 0% losses
3-4.99x prest = 46% losses
5-6.99x prest = 73% losses
7-8.99x prest = 86% losses
9+ x prest = 93% losses
Its not a 100% chance that you will be plundered. Might get lucky but the formula above tells you max amount of troops you can loose.
Breaking Defense
Best way to break a CD is a ram attack, cavsmack or phractsmack. The closer you are to the defending city the more effective you can make the hit. Adding 1 archer, 1 ballista, and 1 pult will give your attack 3 extra rounds free from fire from enemy archers. But at the same time will increase march time. So very important to know when to add them and when to hold off adding them.
CD have no traps or abatis leaving them weak to these attacks as they get in range of all troops in 1 round doing serious damage.
Best way to break a defense with 5k settlers is a mech wave or an archer RB.
5k defenses are weak to these attacks as the defending troops march to attacking opposing army depending on their speed. This forces defending troops to spread out allowing archers to pick them off 1 unit at a time.

Evony Hero Experiance guide

In evony heroes play the most vital role in determining which player will become more powerful and win in battle. Knowing to use the heores correctly will make the difference between you and your opponent. Heroes can produce more resource in city and kill more enemy troops in battle. Its inpossible in evony online game to progress very fast without having good heroes.
Here is the beginning of my post.


Heroes

I)What each hero is used for


1)Politics

A)As mayor

-Increases amount of resources you get per hour.

-Cuts down the amount of time it takes to build

something.


B)When attacking

-Increases the chance of capturing the enemy hero when capping city.



2)Intel

A)As mayor

-Cuts down time it takes to research something in

academy.


B)When attacking

-Increases the chance of finding medals/battle items.

-Increases troops defense. (Each type of troop gets a boost up until intel reaches a certain point.)



3)Attack

A)As mayor

-Cuts down time it takes to make troops in barrack.


B)When attacking

-Increases the individual troop attack, therefore increasing the chance of winning a battle.


C)When Defending

-The hero that has the highest attack in your city is automatically chosen to defend the the city.



II)How to train a Politics/Intel hero (I know of 3 ways, but will only post 2. If anyone knows of more please feel free to reply.)

1)Use this hero to attack lvl5 NPCs but give the points to

attack. When he hits 160 attack start to hit lvl10 NPCs

when you feel he is strong enough and has gained a lot of

points use holy water and replace the points into

politics. (This way can be expensive but fast)



2)Use your hero and attack lvl5 NPCs send your normal amount

of balls and trans as you would with any other weak hero,

but also add 1k warriors to 5k depending on how many you

can afford or how much experience. 1k is usually enough

but sending 5k will set of a few more.



III) Honor/Exp

What determines how much experience you gain.Its is not by how many troops you loose or what type of troop you loose. experience is gain by how many of the opponents army/defense you take down. So on a lvl5 NPC you gain experience from the troops you kill. Since you're not take down the logs, traps, or abatis your bot getting full experience.sending warriors will set of the logs and also some traps, but even though sending cavs will set of abatis they r expensive compared to the cheap and quick to make warriors.



IV)Loyalty

Each hero has a base of 70 loyalty when first recruited from the inn. You can increase hi loyalty by either giving him gold or if you are low a medal. (Can also be rewarded with an item Excalibur, Wealth of Nation or Art of War) All of your heroes should have a loyalty of 100 at all time by rewarding with gold. This can be done every 15 minutes. If the heroes loyalty is to low he can leave or if you get attacked then there is a chance he will leave and get captured joining the enemy.



V)Gold

Each hero is payed in gold. The higher the lvl of the hero the more he is paid. If you have no gold in the city the hero will just leave.



VI) Main Hero

This is very important. never attack with your main hero. he has to remain in your city to builf troops and defend the city. The only time he sould be out is 2 attack NPC's.

(1) Using items.

- Anabasis: Increase hero's experience by 1,000 or 8% of current level cap

-Epitome of Military Science: Increase hero's experience by 10,000 or 30%

-On War - Increase hero's experience by 100,000 or 100%


This is typically the least common way of increasing a hero's experience since you either need to buy these items or win them off the wheel. And once you get to a high enough level, 8% hardly puts a dent in your experience.



(2) Being Mayor

The experience you receive from making troops only goes to the mayor of your city when the troops are FINISHED being made, not when you originally queue them up. The following is a list of how much experience you get per troop that is made.

As you all know (I hope) the most common way to get experience for your hero is to send him/her on an attack. Your hero gain exp by the amount of troops you kill not by how much you loose!!!

The number in parenthesis is how much experience you'll get if you only send ballistae and transporters, simulating a farming situation. Of course your results may vary depending upon how many traps, abaitis, and logs you take out when you attack.

VIII) Capping/Loosing Heroes.

When you get attacked you can cap the hero if the attacking hero has low loyalty. Heroes can be lost when spamming your enemy so to spam its best to use heroes that you wouldnt want to loose. And evony has confirmed that heroes CAN be lost scouting no matter how unlikely it is of happening.


IX) How to give hero.

To give a hero away you will 1st have to attack an npc until the hero loyality reaches 0. This step isnt needed but will help speed things up. After hero reaches loyality of 0 you will attack the city in which the other player wants to receive hero. Of course this step may need to be repeated as just having 0 loyality wont mean hero will automatically transfer.

From lvl 131 and up a National medal is needed to persuade a hero. And the amount of national medals needed increase 1 every 10 lvls.

The formula for the amount of National medals needed is
((Hero Level Round Up Nearest 10)-50)) /10.

Examples:
Hero Level 278 requires = (280-50)/10= 23 Nation Medals
Hero Level 200 requires = (200-50)/10= 15 Nation medals
Hero Level 183 requires = (190-50)/10= 14 Nation Medals


Some heroes have been shown to not follow the chart, but most do. And the amount of gold needed is always 1k gold for each level.

XIII) Hero Base

And finally this could be the most important aspect of a hero. The hero base is basically how we determine a heroes potential. The higher the base the more we want it to be our main hero. You can choose between high base attack, politics and intel.


Hero base is the lvl of the hero subtracted from the main focus of hero.

IE: attack is 680, intel is 60, politics is 13 and lvl is 600

Base is lvl attack 680 - attack 600

so base is 80

Base bellow 60 are worthless. Only use is for spamming.
Base of 60-63 are bad but worth keeping.
Base of 64-66 are ok.
Base of 67-69 are good bases which you should look for.
Base of 70-79 are incredibly lucky finds if found in inn. These are heroes you want.
Base of 80-89 are the best heroes. These can ONLY be found in Mars item.

Base of 90+ and you know ur addicted to evony case your dreaming of hero bases.

How to level up your heros in evony online game

In Evony online game the the higher attributes your heroes have the more advantage you have in the gameplay.
thus it is extremely useful to know how to level up your heroes quickly. to level up your heroes you have to add experience points to your heroes. When your hero get a certain amount of experience you can go to feasting hall and click "view" on that hero and click "upgrade". Each upgrade gives one attribute point which you can add to his politics , attack or intelligence.

Now there are two ways to add experience point to a hero.
1. Setting him as the mayor of your city. When you set a hero as mayor he gains experience point automatically. So, your high politics hero(when set as mayor) gains experience without much of your effort.
2. For attack hero and intelligence heroes you have to gain experience by attacking other player cities or NPC's (barbarian city). Attacking player cities does have some "side effect" that they may attack you back or you don't have too many enemy cities around.
Thus , it's best practice that you attack NPC's again and again. NPC's (non player city or barbarian city) are system generated city. When you attack and plunder NPC's you get a very good amount of resource(mainly food) and good lot of experience points for your hero. After you plunder an NPC it start regeneration of the resource and regenerate to it's full resource after 8 hours( fortification comes back after 1 hour). So , you can attack the same NPC every 8 hour and gain lot of resource and experience points for your hero.

What is rainbow attacking method in evony online games

The rainbow attacking method is very popular and effective in evony free online game. The rainbow method gives a lot of advantage to the attacker in winning the battle. It is just a simple method yet very powerful.
The process of rainbow is simply send 1 type of every troops along with the archers. An example of rainbow will be

1 worker
1 warrior
1 pikeman
1 swordsman
1 cavalry
60000 archers
1 cataphract
etc etc.
The main reason behind this is to form a shield to protect the most powerful troops , archers. Now, how just one of each troop forms shield for all those archers? In evony online game the battle is fought in rounds. In each round the defender and attacker try to kill each others just one type of troop. So , we can say that for each type of troop you send you will get a extra round of firing. This can be simulated as follows
Suppose the defence (your opponent has 10000 Archet Towers/AT)
So, the battle will be fought as follows.
Round 1.
Enemy - The 10000 Archer Towers hit your 1 worker(remember in each round all of them hit a single type of troop).
You - Your 6ok archers kills 2000 AT's(Archer Tower)
round 2 -
Enemy - The 8000 AT's hit the kill 1 warrior.
You - Your 6ok archers kills 2000 AT's

round 3 -
Enemy - The 6000 AT's hit the kill your 1 Pikeman.
You - Your 6ok archers kills 2000 AT's

round 4 -
Enemy - The 4000 AT's hit the hit and kill your 1 swordsman.
You - Your 6ok archers kills 2000 AT's

round 5 -
Enemy - The 2000 AT's hit the hit your 10000 archers.
You - Your 50k archers kills 1500 AT's

round 6
Enemy - The 500 AT's hit the kill your 500 archers.
You - You kill the rest of the at's.

Though ,the above process is very much simplified to give you an overall idea of the rainbow method. Remember, while the opponent's level of research , level of walls, speed of different troops makes a great difference . Sending the rainbow alone does not ensure you will win the battle, but we can surely say that sending rainbow troops are much better that sending only the archers in the evony online games.

How to send a hero to another city in evony

In evony online game sometimes you need to send a hero of one city to another city. Being able to send heroes from one city to another will cut the requirement of building inn's in every city. You can just build one inn in one city , recruit good hero there and send them to other cities. This way you can save the spot required to build inn in the second city and build something useful there.

To send a hero from one city to another you need to follow the steps
1. The other city where you want to send the hero needs to have an open spot in the Feasting Hall. You can do this either by upgrading the feasting hall or dismiss any existing hero from the feasting hall.
2. Then go to the city from where you want to send the hero.Click rally point, march, Select city where you want to send from favorites, select reinforce, select the hero that you want to send, select a scout along with him. Scouts move fastest , so the hero will reach the second city in fastest possible time.
Now you will be able to find the hero in the feasting hall of the destination city.

So, sending a hero from one city to another is that simple.



How to apply Anabasis in Evony.

In evony online game you can apply an item called "Anabasis" to increase the experience of a hero by 1000points or 8% of the current experience of the hero, whichever is greater. Using this item can be a very good advantage as this can increasing the experience of the hero enables him to gain more levels and attributes.

Many players do not understand how to apply this item on a hero in evony. So they just ignore this item. To apply this item on a hero you have to do the following things.


1.Open your feasting hall and select the hero you want to add the experience to by clicking the "view" button to the right of the that hero.
2. On the hero screen, there is a green + sign next to their experience points.
3. Click this button to bring up all of the items that you can apply to their experience (Anabasis is one of them). Click on the apply button next to the item you want to use.

25 hot tips for intermediate Evony online players

Here are some tips I found interesting for intermediate evony MMORPG players. Following these tips can greatly boost up your prestige generation rates.

1.Award your mayor "wealth of the nation". Once the mayor of your main city reaches 80 or above in politics award him the "wealth of the nation" . this reward boost the politics of the mayor by 25% for 7 days, which greatly reduce the building time. I don't suggest using it below 80 , as the percentage increase will not be very good. for example if your mayor is 50 politics , the "wealth of the nation" will increase it by 10 only. Go to feasting hall, click the "view" in the mayor row, click reward, select "wealth of the nation" from the rewards list.

2.Try building and research in both cities. If you can coordinate your building upgrades and also do researches in all the cities at the same time then that will generate prestige very rapidly.

3. Keep Academy levels in both the city same. If you keep the academy level in all the cities same then research made in one city will be shared by the other cities also. If you have a level 6 academy in the primary city and have done some construction research, and the academy of the second city is level 2 only , then the second city will not get the benefits of construction as construction can not be researched in level 2 academy.

4.Keep your tax rate above 50 and compensate loyalty with comforting. You can earn great amount of gold by keeping your tax rate above or equal to 50%. Keeping tax rates high will decrease the loyalty (100-tax rate=loyalty), so increase loyalty regularly( about 12 min. interval) by applying "disaster relief" comforting. Every time you do disaster relief it will consume some food based on your current population and boost the loyalty by 5. Most people advice keeping tax rates at 50%, but I have seen things go pretty well even with 60-70%, if you can do the comforting regularly. be careful that you are doing comforting and tax change in the same city. Just remember , change the tax rate back to 20% when you are going to be offline. Go to overview to change Tax rate change and comforting .

5. Use the market. Use the market to sell the excess resource. This can be quite useful for generating gold very quickly.

6. Do more lumbering. Lumber is the most essential resource for creating troops. So in most of the servers lumber sell at very good price. Creating more sawmills and lumbering research can help you making more troops and get more gold by selling them in the market.

7. Make the most intelligent hero as mayor before start of a lengthy research. A mayor with high politics reduces the building time, similarly a hero with more intelligence reduce the research time. Make the hero with highest intelligence as mayor , start the research and then make the old hero (with high politics) mayor again.

8. Start the town hall upgrades and wall upgrades before you go to sleep. Town hall and wall upgrades are the most lengthy upgrades. If you start it before you are going to sleep or some other lengthy absence , it continue to work (and generate prestige) even when you are offline.

9. Only attack cities with red flag upon them or with no alliance. While attacking a city check if it has an alliance. If it belongs to any other alliance find out if the alliance is your friend or enemy. If it is from enemy alliance then it will have a red flag upon it and you should attack it(If it has less prestige than you). If it does not have a red flag and belongs to some alliance, then you should check the strength of that alliance. If it belongs to a strong alliance , the city may look weaker than you, but it may have friends who are much more stronger than you. If you attack and plunder it, his stronger friends may come after you. Much worse , the whole alliance may become enemy of your alliance.

10. Use up all your resources when you are going to sleep. If you have accumulated a lot of resources and going to be offline for long time then it is better to start an upgrade or research which consumes a lot of resource or to give them to some ally member. This other enemy players will be less interested to attack you as they will see that they won't plunder much resource from you and also the time consuming researches will be completed .

11. While creating army keep in mind that you have to produce enough food for them to eat.

12. Your troops eat double the food while they are out of town. If you conquer a valley , your troops will camp there until you recall them. While camping they are out of town and eat double the amount of food they eat normally. So , recall them after defeating the valley.

13.How to recall your troops. Go to "reports", then "army movements" tab. here you will see all the troops that are out of town. Click view and then recall the army.

15. Research compass to increase the speed of your troops. Every compass research increase the speed of your troops by 10%. If you have level 10 compass then your scouts can even bypass the enemy archer towers without getting hit.

16. Upgrade your rally points and feasting halls. Upgrading the rally point lets you send more number of groups of army at a time. you can attack/scout 3
cities at a time with a level 3 rally spot. Similarly , with higher level feasting halls you can recruit many heros to lead many assaults simultaneously.

17. Attack many small valleys at a time. In recent servers medal hunting is becoming much more difficult. Valleys are dropping medals even in 1% ratio, so you have to attack many valleys to get medals. With higher level rally points and feasting halls you can attack many valleys at the same time and get medals more quickly (level of valley does not matter).

18. Do not send too many troops to the valleys. sending too many troops to the valleys will quickly end the resistance of the defenders, thus lower the chance of the medal drops. The more rounds the fights last more chances that you will get medals from that valley.

19. Calculate how many troops you have to send by using exercise tool of the rally point. In rally point you can simulate the war between two types of troops. Go to rally point then exercise. Then set 200 swordsman in the left side(attacker) and 200 archer in the right side(defender). Click ok. In the bottom it will show which side has won. This way, you can calculate how much troops you have to send against the enemy . Send about twice the calculated amount as the level of the hero is also a deciding factor and you are an attacker.

20. Send your troops in combination to avoid casualty. It is always better to send more than 1 types of unit into battle. For example, 200 swordsman will defeat 160 (level 6) , but 200 swordsman will be easily defeated with 120 archers, 1 worker, 1 warrior,1 pikeman with casualty of 22 archers. Amazing.

21. Calculate the food consumed by the troops while attacking. When you are selecting the amount of troops you are going to send for an attack, check the food consumed by the troops at the lower left part of the "march" screen. This is the food carried/consumed by the troops on march. This can be an huge amount when they are going for a very distant battle. So carefully check if the march costs you more food than you already have in your stock.

22. "Truce Agreement" gives you 12 hours peace of mind. If you have been plundered by your enemy and think that you need some time to rebuild your bases then apply "Truce Agreement" which will give you 12 hours of time in which nobody can attack you nor you can attack anybody. go to "My Items" then "items" to use it(If you have one there). You can not apply it when somebody has already attacked you.

23. Recall all your enemy before you teleport . If you want to teleport your city anywhere else then you have to bring back all your troops into your city. Go to reports , then army movement and recall all your troops.

24. Upgrade your beacon tower. Beacon towers notify you about any attacks on you. The more upgraded your beacon tower is the more early you get notified about the coming attacks on you. So , upgrading the beacon tower in all your city is very important.

25. When creating troops in the barracks , distribute the job between all barracks. When you create troops in your barrack, check the "Sharing the production to all available barracks" checkbox. You will see it at the bottom of the troop creation window. For example, if you are creating 300 archers and you have 3 level 4 barracks then each level 4 barracks will start creating 100 archers. Certainly , any barracks lower than level 4 will not share the production as minimum requirement of creating archers is level 4.
